Key Factors for Selecting The Suitable Adhesive for Sofa Fabric Laminating
2026-03-28
Sofa fabric Laminating Machines are core equipment in the upholstery manufacturing industry, specially designed to laminate sofa face fabrics, linings, sponges, non-woven fabrics and other base materials firmly together. The laminating process directly determines the softness, durability, peel resistance and overall service life of sofa fabrics. Choosing the right laminating machine and matching adhesive is crucial for furniture manufacturers to improve product quality, reduce production costs and meet environmental protection standards.
How to choose a suitable adhesive
1. PUR Hot Melt Adhesive (Polyurethane Reactive Hot Melt Adhesive)

Selection Scenarios:
Suitable for high-grade sofa fabrics, waterproof and wear-resistant upholstery, composite fabrics with high durability requirements, and bonded materials including chemical fiber fabrics, cotton fabrics, sponges and films.
Advantages:
Solvent-free, green and environmentally friendly, no VOC emissions, complying with international environmental protection standards; after moisture curing, it has ultra-high bonding strength, excellent heat resistance, cold resistance and water washing resistance; the laminated fabric has soft hand feeling, good air permeability, no hardening, and retains the original texture of the fabric;
2. EVA Hot Melt Adhesive
Selection Scenarios:
Suitable for medium and low-grade sofa fabrics, conventional non-woven fabric lamination, and small-batch, short-cycle production orders.
Advantages:
Low cost, wide applicability, simple melting operation; fast bonding speed, no need for drying, suitable for rapid lamination of ordinary fabrics; easy storage and transportation, no solvent volatilization.
Disadvantages:
Poor heat resistance and water resistance, easy to degum under high temperature or humid environment; the laminated fabric has a slightly hard hand feeling, which affects the softness of high-grade sofas
3. Water-Based Adhesive
Selection Scenarios:
Suitable for cotton fabrics, linen fabrics and other natural fiber sofa fabrics, and manufacturers with strict environmental protection requirements for indoor products.
Advantages:
Low cost, non-toxic and odorless, good environmental performance; good initial adhesion, suitable for lamination of thin fabrics; low equipment requirements, can be used with ordinary water glue laminating machines.
Disadvantages:
Need a long drying process, low production efficiency; poor water resistance after curing, easy to degum when exposed to water; large shrinkage rate of the fabric after lamination, easy to cause fabric deformation.
4. Solvent-Based Adhesive
Selection Scenarios:
Suitable for thick sofa fabrics, high-strength composite lamination of special fabrics, and scenarios requiring extremely high bonding fastness.
Advantages:
Excellent bonding strength, strong adaptability to various difficult-to-bond fabrics; fast drying speed under high temperature, stable bonding effect.
Disadvantages:
Contains volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are harmful to the environment and operators' health; requires supporting waste gas treatment equipment, increasing production costs; restricted by many environmental protection regulations, not suitable for long-term large-scale production.
General Selection Principles
Prioritize PUR hot melt adhesive for high-grade, environmentally friendly and durable sofa products; choose EVA hot melt adhesive for cost-oriented medium and low-grade products; select water-based adhesive for natural fabric lamination with low environmental protection pressure; avoid using solvent-based adhesives as much as possible, and only use them when special performance requirements are met.
